Slack will embed video stories and audio channels for remote work

Corporate messenger Slack has planned to launch new features: video messages in the format of “stories”, similar to the option in Instagram, and channels for voice communication tied to chats. The options will be introduced into the service by the end of 2020. Reported by The Verge.

It is noted that Slack sees video stories as a way to replace planning meetings and meetings. With their help, remote employees will be able to check in, provide an update on the status of the task, or, for example, communicate the agenda for the team, the message says.

“Instead of having a 15 minute daily meeting, can we record a video ahead of time? It’s like … a more informal and flexible way for people to participate in meetings without having to hold a special meeting, ”comments Slack CEO Stuart Butterfield.

The appearance of the function has not yet been finally approved, but there is a prototype.

Butterfield predicts that in the next 20 years, corporate environments will require not only video conferencing capabilities, but faster voice and video communications.

The second new Slack feature will look like an audio channel tied to a chat. Users will be able to enter it at any time and talk to each other without starting a separate call.

“Starting or scheduling a call can be quite difficult. On the other hand, it’s easy when everyone is in the office to bend over and ask a couple of questions. This is what we are trying to recreate, ”says Butterfield.

It is noted that the function will work like a call to Discord.
